Growls

What are growls?

Growls, for me, are those type of basses where you can hear a certain vowel.
As an example, 2010s dubstep was known exactly for that - Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites by Skrillex is a perfect track to understand what growls are.

As the year passed by, they evolved. In modern dubstep (such as tearout, riddim or colorbass) they can really push the boudaries of music - they either sound like the most basic sound (even though it's really effective) or they can surprise the listeners by their unique formants.

Formants are kind of the tone of the growl's voice. I love deep growls rather than high-formant ones.

Why am I obsessed?

I don't exactly know why am I obsessed with such sounds.
Maybe, as a music producer, my inner self appreciates the technique behind those sounds.

I really like their texture, I can hear their color. They feel alive, they feel like an actual beast is growling at me.

I especially like Nasko and Virtual Riot's growls. Nasko growls are often really deep and VR's are just a classic of dubstep.
